Week One Thursday Night Preview: Detroit Loins vs Kansas City Chiefs

Cody Hatfield

Can you feel it? That electric buzz in the air. When you walk outside at 6am and there is dew on the grass, fog floating around and the cool, crisp taste of Football in the air! With week one of the NFL season starting tonight, football season is in full swing, and we LOVE IT. High school games on Friday, college on Saturday and NFL on Sunday, Monday and Thursday. There is honestly no better time of year. The first game of week one in the NFL is the Defending Super Bowl Champions the Kansas City Chiefs vs the rising Detroit Loins.

After losing some key players to the 2022 free agency market, not a lot of football analysts gave the Chiefs that big of a chance to win the 2022 Super Bowl. What we all forgot is Andy Reed is one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, and Patrick Mahomes is on his way to the Hall of Fame and to be considered one of the greatest football players the sport has ever seen. So yes, they won the 2022 Super Bowl and naturally as the NFL schedulers like to do, The Super Bowl champs get to open the season out at home with a ring ceremony. But with some major losses in free agency again this off season, Like Orlando Brown Jr and Frank Clark, can the Chiefs repeat?

The Detroit Loins start last season out very strong winning 8 out of the first ten games of the year, and the finished the season losing 6 of the final 7 games. During the offseason they let go of running backs Jamaal Williams, and D’Andre Swift. But drafted Jahmyr Gibbs, Jack Campbell, Sam LaPorta, and Brian Branch all within the top 48 picks. Not to mention, Jarod Goff is an NFC Champion, Amon-Ra St. Brown is a blooming superstar, and Aidan Hutchinson has help on defense. I believe they have all the pieces to be a very competitive team in a lackluster NFC.

Tonight's game will be aired on NBC at 8:20 PM. The Chiefs are –4.5 favorites. I believe the game will be closer than the spread suggests. I predict Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions will shock everyone and win a shootout, 34-28. Happy Football Everyone!!
