The PikeView Panthers delivered a terrifying performance on Halloween night, trampling the Roanoke Catholic Celtics with a decisive 52-20 victory. The Panthers' offense was a nightmare for the Celtics defense, primarily fueled by a relentless and powerful running game that dominated the line of scrimmage.
đ» Ground Game Dominance
PikeViewâs rushing attack was the star of the show, racking up an astonishing 466 yards on 56 carries, resulting in seven touchdowns and four two-point conversions. The backfield trio of Peyton Mounts, Braydon Mullins, and Kyle Williams carved up the defense all night long:
⹠Peyton Mounts led the yardage charge with 198 yards on 21 carries and one touchdown, also adding two two-point conversions. He is now only 133 yards shy of the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season.
⹠Braydon Mullins was the touchdown monster, punching in three touchdowns while accumulating 93 yards on 14 attempts. Mullins is on the cusp of a major milestone, needing just 13 more yards to hit 1,000 for the season.
⹠Kyle Williams added another huge chunk of yardage, taking his 14 carries for 129 yards and one touchdown.
⹠Moose Hedrick (1 TD) and Braeden Huggins (1 TD, 1 two-point conversion) also found the end zone in the dominant rushing display.
The Panthers also converted their two passing attempts for 15 yards and a two-point conversion, making the offense nearly perfect in its execution.
đĄïž Defensive Horror Show for the Celtics
While the offense put points on the board, the PikeView defense ensured the Celticsâ own attack was stifled. The defensive unit was especially menacing, registering seven total sacks and a crucial interception.
The Panthersâ defensive line was relentless, holding the Roanoke Catholic rushing attack to a mere 12 yards on 18 carriesâan average of just 0.66 yards per carry. This impressive stat was due in large part to the pressure the Panthers applied in the backfield.
⹠Moose Hedrick and Owen Underwood terrorized the quarterback with 2.5 sacks each.
⹠Logan Cook added 2 sacks to his stat line.
⹠The secondary capitalized on the pressure with Braeden Huggins snagging an interception.
Roanoke Catholic's passing game fared better, totaling 188 yards and one touchdown on 10 completions out of 18 attempts, but the consistent pressure kept them from mounting a sustained comeback.
đ Milestones Approaching
The stellar Halloween performance sets the stage for a memorable end to the season for a couple of PikeViewâs running backs. Both Braydon Mullins and Peyton Mounts are on the doorstep of the 1,000-yard rushing club. Mullins needs only 13 yards in the next outing to reach the milestone, while Mounts needs 133 yards to join him.
đ The week 11 Importance
The final regular season game, PikeView vs. Buffalo next Friday, November 7th, is a must-win for the Panthers to guarantee a Class AAA playoff spot.
âą A Win:Â A victory would not only give PikeView a 7-3 final record but, more importantly, would maximize their playoff rating points, likely pushing them safely into the Top 16Â and securing a first-round playoff berth.
âą A Loss:Â A loss would drop them to 6-4 and likely lower their rating, putting them at the mercy of the final outcomes of other bubble teams.
In short, the PikeView Panthers control their own destiny. If they win next Friday, they are very likely in the WVSSAC Class AAA playoffs.
Fans are encouraged to pack the stadium to support the team as they play their most important game of the year with their playoff destiny hanging in the balance. The stage is set for a thrilling finish to the regular season, and the Panthers will need their ground game and stifling defense to deliver one more time.
