West Virginia University (WVU) football is more than just a sport – it's a beloved tradition ingrained in the culture of the state. From the wild game day tailgates to the iconic "Country Roads" anthem blasting through the stadium, WVU football has a rich history and a passionate fan base that sets it apart from other collegiate football programs.

One of the oldest and most cherished traditions surrounding WVU football is the "Mountaineer Mantrip." Before each home game, the team buses make their way to Mountaineer Field, where they are greeted by thousands of enthusiastic fans lining the path from the WVU Coliseum to the football stadium. The Mantrip is a chance for fans to express the pride and support that the Mountaineer faithful have for their team.

Another cherished tradition is the singing of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver. After every home game, win or lose, the entire stadium joins in unison to sing this iconic song. After home wins, the players lead the stadium in song. This tradition brings a sense of unity and pride to Mountaineer fans, creating an unforgettable game day experience.

One of the most exciting and anticipated events is the "Gold Rush" game. During this game, fans decked out in gold clothing and accessories flood the stadium, creating a mesmerizing sea of gold that energizes the team and creates a spectacle for both players and spectators.

The tailgating culture at West Virginia University is also legendary. The parking lots and fields around the stadium come alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of passionate fans cooking up a storm. From classic barbecues to creative and elaborate setups, the tailgating scene at WVU is an essential part of the game day experience, bringing together friends, families, and alumni to celebrate their love for Mountaineer football.

These traditions and many more contribute to the unique and vibrant atmosphere surrounding West Virginia University football. The unwavering support of the fans, the deep-rooted traditions, and the unbridled passion for the game ensure that WVU football remains an integral part of the state's identity.
